The Trendiest Home Decor of 2019 May Surprise You

A question many people ask themselves when taking on a new decorating project is, “Where do I even start?” Trends come and go all the time; it can be difficult to keep up, especially if you haven’t redecorated in a while! Luckily, we did the research for you to find the hottest trends of 2019. It would be wise to consult the experts, right? Well, that’s exactly what we did. Keep reading to find out why three of our favorite interior decorators and designers believe that plants are most definitely IN for 2019.

Angie Lee of FX Collaborative recently spoke with Elle Decor about her predictions for this year:

“For 2019, there is greater interest in biophilia–emphasizing the relationship between humankind and nature, and the connections between the two. Natural, organic materials–such as wood floors, stone, and daylight and plant life–remind us of the exterior and brings the outside and nature, in. We are a machine-and-technology driven society, but nostalgic about past processes and handiwork, so opportunities for custom millwork and crafted materials are very important.”

Décor Aid, a highly influential design magazine, said “bringing nature inside” was one of the top 15 design trends of 2019:

“The interior design trends this year are taking a more environmentally-friendly approach. Thus, it’s not surprising to see a lot of warm and nature elements being combined with earthen luxury. As a matter of fact, natural elements are seen as the best interior design trends for 2019. Materials that were obtained from nature or those that mimic the look of nature are addressing this need. These interior design trends are making our spaces look more authentic and unique. You can apply natural wood in your home interior design, along with different stone materials, such as pebbles, granite, and marble, for a combination of  materials that resemble and complement natural elements.”

Lastly, at the start of the year, Amanda Lauren of Forbes did a deep dive to see what design trends from 2018 were on the way out and which new ones were in for 2019. Unsurprisingly, Lauren noted that “Green Design” was likely to be one of the hottest design movements in 2019. Green will be everywhere this year. Below is an excerpt from her Forbes article:

“Michael Schoeller and Joanna Darling of SCHOELLER + DARLING DESIGN are particularly touting green upholstery ‘From grass green to more mixed teals.’ They also suggest decorating with lots of live greenery throughout the home. ‘Use in clusters, mixed containers in heights and sizes.  We particularly like containers with matte finishes or raw finishes like concrete. Small trees and plants give shape and texture and add life to a room. Crowd a front window with them or use them in large groups rather than in single plants dotted around.’”

We live in a world that is becoming more and more technologically driven.  As a result, people spend more of their time interfacing with screens and being indoors than ever before. Ironically, our technology developments allow us to also bring plants inside easily and efficiently.
