Liven Up Your Bathroom With Plants
Modern design typically calls for clean lines, white bases, and minimalist style. While that may sound boring to some, this trend actually creates the perfect canvas for adding fun design elements that incorporate different colors and textures – like plants!
One often overlooked room to try adding plants to your décor is the bathroom. It’s a natural location for most plants due to the higher humidity levels and easy access to water. Plus, plants can create a new narrative for a space – instead of simply being a bathroom, it’s transformed into a jungle oasis.
A few of our favorite plants for bathrooms are:
These three varieties tend to be fairly easy to care for; they require indirect sunlight, prefer their soil to dry out a bit between waterings, and are pretty forgiving of less than ideal conditions. Ferns and Pothos look great and grow well in pots, hanging baskets, and living walls. Orchids are a great addition to have in a pot, either on the edge of the bathtub or on a shelf, to give an extra pop of color and interest to the space.
Bathrooms with a window facing North or East work great for these types of plants since the sunlight won’t too strong. While a South or West facing window can still work, you may need to filter the light using sheer curtains and making sure the plants are not too close to the window. If your bathroom does not have a window or skylight, supplemental lighting may be required for your plants to thrive.
